Project Work Flashcards
What are the 5 stages in the ‘System Development Cycle’?
- Understanding The Problem
- Planning
- Designing Solutions
- Implementing
- Testing, Evaluating & Maintaining
What are the purposes for ‘Gantt Charts’?
Gantt Charts are project management tools used to record and track schedules and helps to determine if the project is on schedule.
What are the 4 ‘Feasibility Studies’?
- Economic Feasibility
- Technical Feasibility
- Schedule Feasibility
- Organisational Feasibility
Name 5 Design Tools which assist in the development of a new system.
- Context Diagrams
- Data Flow Diagrams
- Decision Trees and Tables
- Data Dictionary
- System Flowcharts
What are the 4 Conversion Methods?
- Direct Conversion
- Parallel Conversion
- Phased Conversion
- Pilot Conversion
What are the 5 ‘Communication Skills’?
- Active listening
- Conflict Resolution
- Negotiation Skills
- Interview Techniques
- Team building
What is a ‘Machine-Centred System’?
Designed to simplify what the computer must do at the expense of participants. They assume people will follow confusing procedures and illogical user manuals.
What is a ‘Human-Centred System’?
”” Make participants’ work as effective and satisfying as possible. They allow people to do their work without wasting time and effort struggling with the information technology.
What is ‘User-friendly’?
A tool that people find easy to use. They’re more productive as participants do not waste time and effort dealing with the system.
What is a ‘Prototype’?
A prototype is a working model of an information system. They’re built in order to understand the requirements of the system.
What is a ‘phased conversion’?
Involves the gradual implementation of the new system. Certain operations of the new system are implemented while the remaining operations are completed by the old system.
What is a ‘pilot conversion’?
Involves trialling the new system in a small portion of the organisation.
What is the purpose of a ‘project leader’?
- Develops schedules
- Checks work
- Resolves conflicts
- They ensure that the project is meeting its goals
- Responsible for developing the project plan and ensuring it is implemented correctly
At what stage is the requirement report conducted?
Understanding the problem
What are the advantages of prototype?
- The requirements of the system more accurately reflect the needs of the participants.
- Participants have the opportunity to be involved earlier and more directly in the development of the new system.
- The new system is easier to create from a prototype.
