Project 2 Flashcards
What does a turbocharger do for a piston engine?
Allows for maximum efficiency at higher altitudes
How do you ensure there can be no electrical shorts that lead to a fire?
Pulling CB’s, Spark Plug Leads, Disconnect Battery, Magnetos
What does the Injector Pump do?
Pumps Fuel to Manifold, and incorporates return passage for excess fuel
What does Mixture Control do?
Controls mixture ratio of fuel:air and acts as a Variable Selector Valve that directs fuel to the metering jet and back to the fuel pump
What does Fuel Metering do?
Controls amount of fuel flow through the metering jet
What are the two functions/advantages of a Spider Valve?
Even Distribution of fuel, and Fuel Cutoff
What are the main components of an Injector Pump
1) Vapor Separator
2) Vane Pump
3) Bypass Valve
4) Relief Valve
5) Variable Orafice
6) Mixture Valve
What does the Bypass Valve do?
Ensures fuel flow to engine during start via boost pump
What type of Fire extinguisher is used in the Carburetor Re&Re?
Class B
What does the Variable Orafice do?
Changes the amount of fuel pressure at cruise and above
What are the two maintenance adjustments on a pump assembly?
The Relief Valve and Variable Orafice
What are the two sides of a Relief Valve?
Low Side, High Side
What do the Bellows on the pump do?
Prevents Rich Mixture when throttle is adjusted rapidly by controlling variable orafice position
Fuel/Air Control Unit: 2 Cockpit Controls are
Throttle & Mixture
Where is the excess fuel from the FCU routed?
Back to Inlet of injector pump
Fuel Manifold uses what kind of shutoff?
Diaphragm to shutoff
How is a fuel shutoff achieved during engine shutdown?
By spring tension on the selector valve by selecting idle cutoff
What is the standard position of the vent hole?
Facing aft
What is a common cause for an engine shutdown?
Clogged Vent
Source of air on the engine used in hangar?
Upper Deck Pressure
_________ are used to identify size of fuel nozzles
Letters
What items are inspected during dual inspection?
Throttle
1) Locking, Sense, Range of Motion
