A
  • Gangsters such as Capone controlled cities
  • 1/12 agents dismissed for corruption, George Remus handed out $25000 cufflinks for men and cars for women
  • Millions of Americans did not want to support the law and in Maryland, the law wasn’t introduced
  • In 1925 there were more speakeasies than there were legal saloons in 1919

Why was Prohibition later repealed?

A
  • Lack of support/authorities found it difficult to enforce
  • Not enough agents/ 1:12 agents corrupt
  • Led organised crime/St Valentines Day Massacre
  • Lost America Vital taxes/ America would lose large amount of taxes by banning alcohol
