National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Fought to end segregation
NAACP
The fight for this started in 1848, but it was a very slow process, but progressives were determined.
Women’s suffrage
Woodrow Wilson saw that the land could be used for tourism, which in turn funded the protection for these places.
National Parks
he was vice president under McKinley before McKinley was killed in 1901. He became the youngest president at 42. His reform program was the Square Deal.
Theodore Roosevelt
was a member of Roosevelt’s cabinet, succeeded him in 1908. was a judge in Ohio. He fought to limit the power of big corporations and added land to the national forest system.
William Howard Taft
Ran against Taft and Roosevelt in the election, and won. His reform program was to transfer the power from monopolies to average citizens. Took the US through world war one.
Woodrow Wilson
Progressive presidents wanted to protect consumers. They said that all foods and drugs must be tested before they go to market.
Pure Food and Drug Act
This amendment allowed the government to charge income tax. It was used to pay for new agencies like the FDA.
16th amendment
