Progressive Waves Flashcards
How do progressive waves move?
Progressive waves oscillate perpendicularly to the direction of energy transfer
Do progressive waves move matter?
Progressive waves represent sine graphs as such they move each particle vertically this means that the do move matter however they have 0 overall displacement
Give some examples of some progressive(transverse waves)
Visible light, infrared light, ultraviolet light, water waves etc
What 7 things can you measure from a wave graph?
Displacement
Amplitude
Wavelength
Time period
Frequency
Phase
Phase difference
How do you calculate displacement of a wave.
By measuring the distance in meters a point moves vertically from the origin
How do you calculate the amplitude of a wave?
You measure the the distance the wave travel to the peak of the crest measured in meters
