Progressive Waves Flashcards
1
Q
What is a progressive wave?
A
An oscillation that travels through matter transferring energy from one place to another, but not transferring any matter.
2
Q
What are the two types of progressive waves?
A
•Transverse wave: oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of wave travel
•Longitudinal wave: oscillations are parallel to the direction of the energy transfer.
3
Q
What equipment do you use to measure the frequency of a wave?
A
An oscilloscope.
4
Q
What do the x and y axis on an oscilloscope represent?
A
X axis: Time base
Y axis: Amplitude
