-Gatekeeper: prestigious universities; ensure most qualified encouraged to apply
-Salesperson: lesser known institutions; utilize competitive marketing strategies
-Hybrid: even in prestigious schools, need to get minority representation
Multicultural Affairs
- student support
- campus education
- promote change in terms of diversity
- maintain multicultural centers and activities on campus
- provide place for students (esp. students of color, minority students, LGBT+ students, and international students) can find support, educational materials, and assistance in integrating into campus community
- provide social activities
Academic Advising
- create a plan that supports student with academic and social-personal activities
- help students identify and develop career goal preparation
- help students seek enriching experiences while at college
- look at student holistically
- must build rapport

Career Services
- provide resources for students through all phases of career development

Student Conduct
- balance legal rights and educational purposes
- academic misconduct: violation of rules and academic honesty/integrity
- restorative justice community: alternative punishment that emphasizes student accountability and community healing
Orientation
- influence student retention & educational and personal development
- transition
- first year and transfers
- Can exist in a day/week program OR as a first year experience course
Student Activities
-student govt., student organizations, Greek life, student union programs, Multicultural affairs, leadership development, community service
Financial Aid
- federal aid includes loans, grants, and work-study
- student determined by cost of attendance minus expected family contributions, minus other sources of assistance (i.e., scholarships)
- can report to SA or Enrollment Management
- must understand financial aid rules and regulations
- policies always changing!
Residence Life
- provide housing and res life programs
- some issues: safety and security; availability of tech; first-year students in transition programs; living learning communities
- research shows students who live on campus persist and graduate at higher rates than those who do not
Counseling Centers and Student Health
-Counseling centers: deal with adjusting to new environments, planning for future, learning time management and study skills, establish identity, and values clarification
-Health programs: strengthen health and well-being
-medical care

-integrating wellness concept
Veteran Services
-provide relaxing place to meet, receive latest veteran benefits info, hold workshops, meet veteran's services orgs SERVICES: -GI Bill processing -Counseling -Veterans Success on Campus -Student Veterans Network -Peer to peer support groups for student vets -vet org contacts/resources
Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS)
- support services

- offer over and above services
- empowers students by encouraging self-advocacy and independence
- Student Educational Contract (SEC): developed for each student which links goals, curriculum program, and academic accommodations to his/her disability related to educational limitation
