A
  1. must have hall pass folder daily. folder is blue with a sign out sheet (white) hall pass (green yardstick) and early pick up (gold paper)
  2. make sure students sign in and out every time they leave out the class room
  3. make sure students have a hall pass and traveling with a buddy at all times
  4. please be aware of the time (notice how long they take and check outside your classroom in the halls to make sure students are promptly returning/not playing around in the hallway
  5. please ensure that you tell students not to bend the hall pass and return it to the blue folder
  6. go over the rules with your class and tell them never to leave without your permission, whether in the gym, cafeteria, classroom or auditorium
31
Q

buddy system rules (5)

A
  1. buddy system: students must travel in pairs and avoid being along in the hallway at all times
  2. please make sure that if students leave the class, they have a hall pass at all time. if a hall pass is not presented, the students will be asked to return to the class and retrieve the hall pass
  3. when sending a student out the class, please select a student that is not their close friend. when sending a student with their friend they tend to play around in the bathroom and take longer.
  4. if you have a large group, it is best practice that one staff take half the students in the beginning of the class and the other half after, so that students will not be a disruption throughout class time
  5. water breaks occur in the cafeteria during transition to avoid students from leaving the class every few minutes
32
Q

cafeteria rules (3)

A
  1. please make sure that you are observing your assigned table and stand by it to supervise the children. please do not socialize or Sit away from your class. be very attentive at this time.
  2. make sure that every student is seated with their feet under the table. If you see students standing and/or talking too loud please let’s all work together and tell the students to please be seated and lower their voice.
  3. Before you leave the cafeteria ensure that your table is clean. Do not leave if your table is messy. Make sure students take all their coats and back packs with them.
33
Q

classroom rules (8)

A
  1. make sure that the classroom, gym, auditorium, and cafeteria is clean before you leave. Make sure the tables are put back, the chairs are neatly where they belong. Clean spills, paper, items before leaving.
  2. Please make sure there is no SONYC work supplies, folders or post it papers left on the walls in the gym, cafeteria and auditorium. Let’s leave all areas as neat as possible.
  3. Be very mindful of your equipment. Once the SONYC supply bag is taken upstairs you are responsible for bringing your own equipment upstairs. Please do not leave equipment/your attendance folder in the cafeteria.
  4. All sports equipment must be brought upstairs by the staff not students alone. Let’s share responsibility to ensure our supplies are returned to room 325 SONYC office daily.
  5. Please close all windows and leave tables/desk clear of items and chairs pushed under the desk/tables. Chairs with no desk/tables should be left in a neat circle when dismissing.
  6. Establish class routines to establish an orderly classroom. Establish and enforce boundaries between students and staff.
  7. No food and drinks are allowed in the classrooms, gym and auditorium. Observe your students before leaving the cafeteria to make sure they are not leaving with food.
  8. Double check your attendance sheet to make sure you have all your students before leaving the cafeteria.
34
Q

Attendance taking (8)

A
  1. Please make sure to always take attendance at the beginning of class. the reason for this is so you’re aware of the students that belong in your class.
  2. After you take attendance, count the number of students in your class and then the number you have marked present to make sure there is a match.
  3. OPTION: When taking attendance, have all students to stand. As you say each students name out loud, ask the student to sit down when they hear their name. Any student left standing at the end does not belong in your class.
  4. If you notice a student is in your class that is not on your roster, please do not allow the student to stay. Send them to the SONYC office room 325 (if you’re upstairs- and a director is upstairs) or to the cafeteria (if you’re downstairs- or if there is no director upstairs). We must avoid students roaming the hallway. One of the supervisors will escort them to their class.
  5. Please make sure that the students sign out on the attendance sheets after both sessions. This will help us to see who has been attending their activity and who is not.
  6. Please take attendance only in pencil, black ink, or blue ink.
  7. Please do not allow students to manage your attendance folder to avoid any drawings, stains, sketches, marks signing other students names or inappropriate writing.
  8. Please do not write notes or any other marks beside a check or x in the P column. leave the A column blank is the student is not there. in some cases your student may be present but is with the educational specialist or provided extra study time. mark students present when he or she arrive even if it is after you have taken attendance.
