What is consent?
When you get permission before any medical treatment. Must be voluntary (not influences/forced) and informed and given by someone with capacity to do the above.
What is confidentiality?
Information that is secret. Never discuss a patient in a public place or social media. Important to maintain trust.
What are the professional responsibilities of medical students?
Always introduce yourself, and as a med student.
What is the dress code for medical students?
Bare below the elbows and ID visible. No trainers.
What are the benefits to good communication to patients and professionals.
Aiding diagnosis, therapeutic benefits for patient and reduces errors.
Describe the basic structure of the Calgary-Cambridge framework
- Initiating session with patient: develop a friendly rapport, and identify reason for session.
- Gather info: explore patient’s problems and understand their viewpoint.
- Physical Exam
- Explanation and Planning: provide information and achieve shared understanding and make decisions
- Closing the session
