The lawyer, at all times, must act in a professional, dignified, and courteous manner.
OC/Judge
When interacting with a judge or opposing counsel, the lawyer must act with integrity, be reasonable with time, and must not threaten harass or embarrass them.
Claims/Motions
Motions and arguments must be supported by fact, not done with the intent to delay, and contain no frivolous claims.
Independence
Lawyer’s must always maintain independent to the justice system, not to be influenced by clients.
Confidentiality
Lawyers must maintain confidentiality. Confidentiality lasts forever, even after client’s death. It must be maintained at all costs unless the lawyer knows the client will commit a crime in the future, will cause great bodily injury or death, or the client consents to waive.
Duty of Loyalty
The lawyer must always maintain a duty of loyalty to the client.
Competency
The lawyer must maintain basic skills, knowledge, and preparation to remain competent in his area of practice. The lawyer should not take a case in an area of which he is not competent or cannot learn to be competent in.
