Productivity Flashcards
What is the formula for net productivity
Net productivity = Gross productivity - Energy lost
For plants it is the energy lost through respiration by heat.
the net productivity is the energy remaining which for plants is biomass.
net productivity is the energy available for the next trophic level
how to calculate the efficiency of energy transfer
% efficiency = (Net product of current trophic level/net producitiy of precious level) x 100
What is productivity?
the rate at which plant fixes carbon , producing carbohydrates etc
what is GPP
total amount of light energy transferred into a plant by photsynthesis
Why cant all energy be transferred/used
For plants :
wrong wavelengths
some is reflected
some passes through
In general:
some food is indigestible
some parts are not edible
energy lost to environment from movements/heat
