Production Scheduling Flashcards
Describe Planning a project
Planning describes what and how the project will be accomplished
What does scheduling determine?
Determines whom and when something will be done.
Crucial means of communication with contractors, owners, co-workers and company departments
Describe a Continuous conversion system
A high volume of similar products are produced.
What is an Intermittent Conversion system
Is when a variety of custom products are produced at one time, or small groupings or different products are produced in batches.Low Vol High Mix
3 types of scheduling methods?
Finite Loading
Forward Scheduling
Backward Scheduling
What is Finite Loading
Common Scheduling method
Work centers are loaded up based on known capacity levels, and on max hours and Labour available.
As jobs are loaded on work center a Calculation of the amount of time for each job is scheduled by simulating start and completion times.
Books all available capacity in future work
What is Forward Scheduling
Loading schedule based on start date of a project
What is backward scheduling?
Used in continuous conversion shops that produce homogenous products.
Starts with the date of completion for the job
No extra time to complete work.
What is the Critical Path Method?
Allows a higher level of complexity and dependency between the scheduled activities.
Used in conjunction with a Bar Chart
Often used in larger cabinetmaking companies during the prototyping of new product lines.
