JOB,Batch,Flow and Cell production
What is Job production?
one off items produced by skilled workers and is usually made to customer specifications.
Give an Example of Job production?
Customised wedding cakes
What are the advantages of Job Production?
Directly targets customer needs and wants which can increase customer satisfaction,employees feel motivated as there is more job satisfaction,it is associated with high quality which means the business can charge a high price.
What are the drawbacks of Job production?
Requires high skilled workers which increases the cost of the business,very labour intensive so less units can be produced as less capital equipment is used.
What is Batch production?
It is when similiar items are produced together and each batch goes through one stage of the production process before moving onto the next stage.
What is an example of batch production?
Cricket bat production
What are the benefits of batch production?
Cost savings can be achieved by buying in bulk(economies of scale), allow firm to deal with unexpected demanded as there is more stock compared to job production as items are produced in batches rather than in singularly.
What are the drawbacks of batch production?
Tasks are more repetitive which damages employee motivation,requires business to have high stock levels therefore increase in storage costs for the business.
What is flow production?
is when an assembly line is used to produce lots of identical products that moves continuosly through the production process
What is an example of flow production?
production of chocolates
What are the advantages of flow production?
Unit cost of production is very low which allows the business to remain competitive in the market,less need for training and skills as it is mainly produced by capital machinery therefore eliminating training costs for the business.
What are the drawbacks of flow production?
requires high quality machinery which increases business costs in the short term as well as taking a long time to set up, furthermore production is shut down if machines are not working/faulty this can lead to the business missing out in sales causing a competitive disadvantage.
What is cell production?
Where production is organised as a set of tasks with each set of task being completed by a work group that specialises in that task.
What is a example of cell production?
Ford factory where workers work on specific parts on the car
