What is courtship?
The behavioural patterns of male and female animals with the ultimate purpose of mating and fertililsation.
What are pheromones?
Chemicals secreted by the female that signal to the male that they are sexually mature.
Chemotaxis?

Eggs hatch outside the body
Ovovivipary?
Eggs hatch inside the body
Vivipary?
Young are born live
What is the difference between an embryo and a foetus?
The embryo develops during the 1st stages of development after the formation of the zygote
Tissues have differentiated into organs it is known as a foetus.
Extra-embryonic membranes?
The membranes that occur outside the embryo
Precocial and Altricial?

3 extra-embryonic membranes
Yolk sac
The albumen
Shell
Amnion?
The innermost membrane that encloses the embryo.
Allantois?
A sac that grows from the embryos intestines
Collects waste products and exchanges gases
Chorion?
Outermost membrane - surrounding all the membranes
Functions of the Chorion?
Allows gaseous exchange together with porous shell in birds and reptiles.
In mammals - forms part of the placenta - supplies embryo/foetus with nutrients.
