What does a record company pay for?
Everything that needs to be done to make a CD or release a commercial song:
1) recording - studio/engineer time
2) mixing
3) mastering (the final copy)
What do record companies give their artists ?
An advance to live on while making the CD
What is a record label?
A unit within the company
What does a record label do?
Handle a particular repertoire. It is a brand or trademark associated with music recordings.
They also co-ordinate the product, manufacture, distribute, market, promote and enforce the copyright for sound recordings and music videos
What are the 3 record labels referred to as Major labels?
WMG- Warner music group
UMG- universal music group
SME - Sony music group
What is a recording company?
