Q

What is a reference point or datum?

A

Point from where all measurements are taken in drawings. It increases accuracy and reduces measurement error.

Q

What is a template used for?

A

A template is a specific shape from which replicas can be made. Using a template ensures all designs are identical and is quicker than drawing a design to scale every time.

Q

What type of patterns are used in textiles?

A

Patterns are used to trace outlines onto textiles so they can be cut out and sewn together. It can be done by hand or by using CAD technology.

Q

What type of patterns are used in casting?

A

They are most commonly made from metal wood or plastic resins. And water material is pawned into the mould created by the reusable pattern in order to create an object that is the same shape.

Q

What is the importance of quality control?

A

When a product is purchased, a consumer expects their needs to be met at the very least. Quality control is used to ensure that a product both looks right and is able to perform its expected functions.

Q

What is tolerances and what is their importance?

A

Tolerances is concerned with accuracy, and is the variation allowed from precise measurement. They are included in working drawings to ensure manufacturers are aware of upper and lower limits. Reduce the risk of improper fits, delays, waste and costs for replacement.

Q

What are registration marks?

A

Registration mark consist of a circle with a cross through it. They are used to test whether all the inks in a printer are correctly aligned. All four colours are printed onto the marks. If the printing plates are all aligned correctly, the registration mark will be clear and defined with no colour visible.

Q

What a no go gauges, and what are they important for?

A

No-go gauges are used to check component dimensions are within the specified tolerances. There are two sided with each end, representing either the upper or lower tolerance. The no-go gauge his position to components to ensure that they are within the accepted tolerance. They say time eliminating the need to measure exact dimensions. They are simple, portable and require no power

Q

What are depth stops for and why are they important?

A

Death stops control the depth of drilling and are fitted to the drill set to stop it an exact limit. The depth stop prevents the drill from going any further than the depth limit. The depth limit can be changed as the stop can be moved to a different position.

Q

What is the importance of laser cutters in tolerances?

A

Laser settings on laser cutters insure the dimensions of cuts are within the specified tolerances. They can be programmed to cut to a very small tolerance. To get a accurately cut product, the kerf, the beam focus, the power and the feeder rate must all be set correctly

Q

How do you check the quality of repeating prints?

A

We compare them to the original sample, both vertically and horizontally. This can be done by visually holding the fabrics against the original and seeing how closely they match

Q

How do you ensure quality of PCBs?

A

We make sure that exposure times to UV, light and etching solutions is limited to purely how much time is needed to produce a good quality of board.
