Production Flashcards
What is Lean Production?
- Getting rid of waste
- waste can be over production, too much movement on the production line and stock which had been damaged.
What is just-in time production?
This is where a business doesn’t hold stock. It only offers the supplies when it’s got an order. If Hik U did this they wouldn’t hold the materials to make the products, they would order the materials when they get an order.
Can Hik U realistically use Just-in time production?
On the one hand it could be a benefit as they could maintain the quality of the products without them potentially getting damaged. As on the brief it states that they must manage their resources more carefully and using Just-In time would effect that.
However they get their supplies from SWEEDEN, so due to the time it would take to ship they may not be able to use just-in time as they may not receive the products in the time that they need.
Batch Production.
Batch production is the process of producing a set amount of identical products.
The products pass through the production process together, one stage at a time.
Example- a bakery will produce a batch of cakes.
Mass/flow production.
Mass/flow production involves a continuous flow of products through the production process.
The products travel along a production line and large quantities are produced in order to reduce the unit cost.
Example- a chocolate bar will be mass produced.
