What is cell production?
Small teams (a cell) taking responsibility for a significant role in the production process.
What is kaizen production?
An approach which involves introducing small alterations in a business with the aim of improving quality and efficiency. It places emphasis on getting things right the first time around.
What is Just In Time production?
Ensuring inouts to the production process only come as and when they are required, based upon consumer demand.
What is the purpose of using JIT production?
To reduce stock holding costs and to build strong relationships with suppliers.
What are the advantages of JIT?
Stock-holding costs will be reduced such as rent and insurance.
With less stock, it is less likely to perish (applicable to perishable goods such as flowers or even tech which changes often)
Less capital is allocated to stock.
What are the negatives of using JIT production?
Firm becomes heavily dependant on suppliers to deliver the right quantity by the right time.
Not flexible enough to meet unexpected demand.
Mistakes in production cannot be afforded for as stock is held at a minimum.
Complex stock systems may be difficult to use/ need a specialist to navigate which adds to costs.
What does kaizen encourage employees to do?
Take responsibility and ownership of thier work and its quality.
How can kaizen motivate employees?
By making them responsible for their own work which enforces a strong team working culture.
What is TQM?
Every member of the production team must be committed to maintaining high standards of quality and are responsible for their own work.
