- Reduce list of suppliers (saves time)
- Questions such as cash-flow, financial stability
- Use of Yes/No questions - quicker for both parties
- Can sometimes use pre-determined suppliers (accredited)

- Structured, fair and objective
- Pre-agreed evaluation criteria (weighting)
- ITT issued, detailed document, follows procurement rules
- Bidders can ask questions but answers must be shared with all
- Clear pricing model so that they can easily be assessed against one another

- Deadline for bids, and clear/transparent process to avoid accusations of bias
- Price broken down into different elements (installation, parts, commissioning etc)
- Delivery - overall delivery maybe key criteria, schedule and milestones
- Capability and capacity
- Quality processes - accreditation e.g. ISO 9000
- Suppliers can be asked to present solutions
