Processes And Landforms Of Deposition Flashcards
1
Q
Sediment Cascade
A
Passive transport. Debris deposited on top of glacier, above equilibrium line gets sucked in, transported englacially.
Subrounded - subangular.
Dropped below equilibrium line stays on top of glacier. Angular - sub angular.
2
Q
Active transport
A
Regelation and supercooling
Supercooling - thick ice and high water pressure means liquid water can exist at below zero degrees.
Regelation - ice meets small scale rocks, pressure increases and pmp, melts, passes around obstacle, refreezes and releases latent heat.
3
Q
Depositional landforms
A
Moraines - gives an indication into past ice extent.
