Processes And Courses Flashcards
What happens in the upper course?
The river erodes downwards.
What happens in the middle course?
The banks are being eroded, so the channel is getting wider. A floodplain forms, where the river floods time after time.
What happens in the lower course?
In the lower course, the channel is wider still, and a little deeper. It holds a lot more water now. The floodplain has got wider too.
What is the process called when a river wears something away?
Erosion
What is the process called when a river carries away the eroded material?
Transport
What is deposition?
As the river reaches flatter land, it loses energy. As it loses energy, it drops or deposits its load. The deposited material is called sediment.
