PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNICATION MODELS Flashcards
Linear form or a One-way Communication Model?
Shannon & Weaver Model
This communication model is concerned with the function of gatekeepers or intermediaries in the communication process. This paradigm is commonly used in mass communication.
Gatekeeper/ Intermediary
They have the ability to interfere with messages with messages or prevent them from reaching a certain audience.
Gatekeepers / Intermediaries
8 COMPONENTS OF THE SHANNON & WEAVER MODEL?
- Information Source 2. Message 3. Transmitter 4. Signal 5. Channel 6. Noise 7. Receiver 8. Destination
The information being sent (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Message
It describes how a signal travels via channels, gestures, and sound. (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Signal
Consists of the air channel for producing sound and the light channel for producing gestures. (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Second-Layer Noises
The information the speaker wishes to convey. (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
Message
What is Communication?
To share thoughts, impart information, persuade others of our beliefs, and show love and affection.
3 VARIATIONS OF FEEBACK?
Positive, Ambiguous, Negative
It becomes the information source. (INTERACTIVE MODEL)
The Source of Feedback
Inspires or encourages others. These are encouraging remarks that will support you in achieving a certain goal or set of goals for your present activities and aspirations for the future.
To motivate
It is any additional signal that filters or complicates the transmitted signal. May also refer to the problem the communicator or their environment may have that hinders effective listening. (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Noise
It can take the form of a message or a collection of messages (INTERACTIVE MODEL)
Feedback
In face-to-face communication, it may be a set of ears or eyes. If it is a phone conversation, it is the phone. If it is in a television broadcast, it is the TV. (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Receiver
Is the small, unmarked box in the middle of the model, which is frequently constructed of air, light, electricity, radio waves, paper, and the postal system. (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Channel
4 ELEMENTS IN THE PROCESS OF INTERACTIVE MODEL
- Destination 2. Feedback 3. The Source of Feedback 4. Original Consumer of Feedback
It offers feedback on the information received and allows the information source to change the information in the present. (INTERACTIVE MODEL)
Destination
The method means of expressing the messages through verbal channels (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
Channel
Any type of disturbance that prevents people from understanding the message being sent or received. (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
Noise
The source of information. (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
Sender/ Speaker
Circumstance and setting of the communication. (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
Context
One of the fundamental purposes of communication is to deliver and receive information to carry out tasks and find answers to issues.
To inform or provide information
Term for face-to-face communication (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Transmitter
The reaction of the Reciever (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
Feedback
This function makes it easier for people to communicate their feelings and emotions.
To facilitate emotional expression
Second-layer actions that are produced by the body, which the mouth and body both interpret as signals. (SHANNON&WEAVER)
First-Layer Noises
The communication model that describes the dual role of the communicator as the sender and receiver of the communication process.
Schramm’s Model
Speaker’s counterpart in communication. (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
Listener/ Reciever
It changes into a destination.
The Feedback is transmitted, gathered, and has the ability to make noise. (INTERACTIVE MODEL)
Original Consumer of Feedback
This communication model allows for a two-way exchange of ideas.
INTERACTIVE MODEL
What are the two stages in the Communication Process?
Sending the message and Receiving the message
It is where the message is absorbed and interpreted, it is most typically a person (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Destination
This function is utilized to create social connections, foster intimacy and closeness, communicate preferences and needs, convey objectives and strengths, and provide and receive information and encouragement.
To effect social interaction
8 ELEMENTS OF THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS
- SENDER 2. RECEIVER 3. MESSAGE 4. CONTEXT 5. CHANNEL 6. MEDIUM 7. NOISE 8. FEEDBACK
It is utilized to regulate the behavior, nature, and number of activities that people engage in.
To control or regulate
The individual who creates and sends the message (SHANNON&WEAVER)
Information Source
2 LAYERS OF TRANSMISSION?
First-Layer Noises and Second-Layer Noises
Communication system or channel. (PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION)
