Process Identification Flashcards
Is it possible to add all the company’s process into BPM?
it will not be possible to do all the processes. A max of 5 processes canbe added to the BPM cycle.
it’s very resource intensive, many people, many time.
How does a process landscape model looks like? Where is value created?
Check notes. Value created in Core Processes
Name the 3 relationships between processes
Sequence:
- Describes a logical sequence between two processes;
- Also referred to as a horizontal relationship (e.g., a producer-consumer relationship), which means that one process
provides an output that the other process takes as an input.
- Example: Quote-to-order vs. Order-to-cash
Decomposition:
- Describes a decomposition in which one specific process is described in more detail in two or more subprocesses;
- Also referred to as a vertical or hierarchical relationship;
- Often used as the primary relationship that defines the structure of the process architecture (i.e., process landscape
model at the most abstract level; each model element is decomposed into a more detailed process on the next level).
- Example: Produce product vs. Process and assemble (product) parts
Specialization:
- Describes that there exist several variants of a generic process;
- May be required due to differences in legal contexts (e.g., across countries), different categories of products or services,
different types of customers or suppliers, etc.
- Example: Handle job application in Austria vs. Germany (within the same multi-national company)
What’s the generic process architecture
Lvl 1: Process Landscape: incluiding value chains
Lvl 2: Business Processes (analyzed on BPM, also modelled
Lvl 3: Sub-processes and Tasks
Which is the problem that reference models solve and how they do it?
Process analysts find it often difficult to identify the processes of an organization and the levels of a process architecture. They solve it by (Re-)use of reference models
How to process landscape a model? Name the basic checklist
Is it a process after all? (main action + outcome)
Can it be controlled?
Is it important enough to manage?
Is the process scope (not) to big?
Is the process scope (not) to small? (involve at least 3 actors)
What’s the 7 step method to process a landscape model
- Clarify terminology
- Identify end-to-end processes* (also referred to as value chains)
- For each end-to-end process, identify its sequential (business) processes
- For each process, identify its major management and support processes
- Decompose and specialize processes
- Compile process profile
- Check completeness and consistency
Name the 3 selection criteria to choose a process into BPM
- Strategic importance
- Health
- Feasibility
For process health, what are the performance dimensions and its measurements?
- Time: cycle or throughput time, processing or queueing or other waiting time
- Cost: Fixed costs vs variable costs, operational costs
- Quality: Customer satisfaction, churn rate, net promoter score,
- Flexibility: ability to react to changes
What’s the process portafolio, its criteria and in which quadrant should have the most attention?
Refers to the set of all processes in general, and more specifically to their visualization in relation to key selectioncriteria.
Builds on the three criteria of importance, health, and feasibility
the quadrant is the one with high importance, high feasibility and low health
