Q

What Information will be passed from the Incident Ground to Fire Control?

A

When communicating risk critical information back to FC, the priority ‘9’ button on Airwave radio will be used.

When OPS20 is in use (which is procedure), remember that priority button 9 cannot be used as OP20 is a hailing channel only. Priority button 9 can only be used on OPS1, 2 or 3.

FC will be informed of confirmed location of the fire, the Bridgehead, the Fire Sector and other sectors, along with firefighting actions:

Floors and locations where it is safe for people to stay put
Actions being taken to rescue occupants receiving FSG
Confirmation of number of people rescued, flat or location and floor number where they have been rescued from
Evacuation plan, any identified safe escape routes and personal safety considerations
Firefighting tactics employed and progress being made
Any rapid or dynamic change in conditions that require a change to the stay put/get out advice that FC give to callers MUST be communicated clearly and immediately between the IC, FC.

Q

FSG is defined as:

A

..the advice and guidance given by fire control personnel to people at risk, who are directly affected by flames, heat or smoke and cannot get to a place of safety.

It is important to recognise that advice from fire control (FC) personnel to stay put (because it is safe to do so) or evacuate is not classed as FSG

Q

How do we deal with Callers requiring reassurance?

A

In these circumstances and where reasonably practicable, the IC should also ensure that reassurance is offered to those expressing concern by the most expedient means possible. This could include:

*The use of the property’s intercom system

*Sending firefighters to each address that is affected.

*The provision of reassurance to callers not receiving FSG should not be prioritised over deploying resources to assist with an emergency evacuation and/or rescues
