Q

What is an abstract?

A
Quick Abstract Reference
Must have:
1. Purpose
2. Key result(s)
3. Most significant point of discussion
4. Major conclusion
Summarize in a concise paragraph the purpose of the report,
data presented, and major conclusions in about 100 - 200 words.

Q

What are the safety precautions?

A

-In table form, you could use the headers: Hazard; Consequences; Probability; Damage Control and Prevention
Alternatively, you could use these headers for non-serious reports that aren’t being marked: Risk Factor; Hazard; Control
always say use safety goggles for experiments with an open flam of chemicals, gloves, tie hair back.

Q

What is an independent variable?

A
A variable (often denoted by x) whose variation does not depend on that of another.
An independant variable is the variable which you change in an experiment. Note you can only have 1 variable that can change in an experiment and more than one independent variable will result in an unfair experiment.

Q

What is a dependent variable?

A

A dependent variable is the measure of the independent variable. Therefore it depends on the independent variable. (Y axis)

Q

Example of Dependent and independent variables?

A

looking at the growth of trees in the Dark, in a dimly lit room and in the direct sun.
The independant variable is the location of the experiment, because this is what is being changed.
The dependent variable may be the height of the plants, which is determined by the independent variable (ie amount of sunlight on the plants)

Q

What is an controlled variable?

A

These are essentially every other variable the experiment may have, and these must be kept constant.

Q

Example of a controlled variable?

A

In the plant example, these may be the temperature, climate, type of seeds planted, the time each were planted, how much water is given etc.
