Problem: Difficulty inserting an earmold or ear shell
Solution:
Re-instruction on how to insert the earmold describing land marks on the aid/earmold
Modification of the ear mold e.g. removal of the helix lock
Patient might have to be taught to pull the pinna upwards and outwards with the opposite hand while putting the aid/mold in with the ipsilateral hand
Problem: Difficulty locating or using a control
Solution:
Volume controls in ITE, ITC can be made more prominent with add-on caps
One of the controls can be removed or delegated to one aid (e.g. the left aid for volume right aid for programs)
A remote control can be added
Problem: Difficulty removing the hearing aid
Solution:
A removal handle or line should be added
Parts of the earmold or shell can be removed
Problem: Difficulty changing the battery
Solution:
Color one side of the battery slot to lessen problems with battery reversal
Using a magnetic tool to hold the battery
Fitting a hearing aid that has a rechargeable battery
Problem: Earmold or earshell discomfort
Solution
Look to see where the mold/shell is pressing against canal and grind away that part of the mold/shell to make a better fit
Problem: Poor earmold or earshell retention
Solution
Remake the hearing aid in a style that has better retention properties
Remake the earmold with a longer canal portion and/or with a helix lock
