A

There was little economic development under 19th century colonial rule. In many places the encouragement to produce goods for the British market helped the British more than it did the producers.

A

They were frequently assigned the most dangerous jobs available. Railway work also forced men to live apart from their families for long periods, as they moved across a country laying track.
