Probability Sampling Flashcards
Probability sampling
Sampling occurs by random process
Random process is a procedure produces one outcome from set of possible outcomes.
Qualities of outcomes
Outcome must be unpredictable
Each of the possible outcome must be equally like to occur.
Types of probability sampling
Simple random sampling
Stratified random sampling
Probability random sampling
Simple random sampling
Each individual equal chance
Equality no individual is likely to be chosen then other
Selection independent of others
Goal of simple random sampling
Selection procedure cannot discriminate among individuals
Result in non-representative sample
Two methods of simple random sampling
Spring without replacement
Sampling with replacement
Process of simple random sampling
Clearly define population from which
Make list
Use random process to select individual from list
Systematic sampling
Dividing sample size with whole number of population
Stratified random sampling
Consists of variety of group
Strata
Men,women
Oversampling in stratified random sampling
Researcher draw sample including large proportion of strata then they are actually present in population.
Cluster sampling
Individuals under study are already clustered in pre-existing group.
Researcher randomly select group.
Combine strategy sampling
No probability sampling types
Convenience sampling
Quota sampling
Snowball sampling
Purposive sampling
Convenience sampling
Those individuals who h are easy to get.
Snowball sampling
One or two individual from population are selected and these individual leads the researcher to other population members.
