2 types of metastigmata - Argas and Ixodida.

What is their difference ?

A

Argasidae - Soft ticks:

1. No plates or shields on body. 2. Feed several times in nymphal and adult stages. 3. During development –> more nymphal stages

Ixodidae - Hard ticks:

1. Hard shield and stiff plates on body. 2. Feed only once in all phases of development. 3. Development –> one nymphal stage occurs
