(-) AO3 There have been concerns about the companies that run schools going out
of business, leaving the future of the schools they manage under question
globalisation
the way in which countries are becoming more connected to each other.
globalisation policy - assimilation
in the 1960s and 70s, policy focused on the needs of ethnic minorities to become part of mainstream British culture e.g. helping those whose first language wasn’t English.
(-) AO3 Some point out that Afro-Caribbean students speak English but underachieve due to poverty and racism
globalisation policy - Multi-cultural education
from the 1980s and 90s, aimed to promote
the achievement of ethnic minority groups and value all cultures, helping to raise
their self-esteem and therefore achievement levels.
(-) AO3 It has been argued that MCE was tokenistic- it picked out stereotypical
features of cultures to have in the curriculum, but didn’t tackle institutional racism
