Q

What’s the difference between proficiency Vs. Currency

A

Currency is just hitting your 90 day passenger requirement and your 24 month flight review. Your current legally. however are you proficient enough to fly that plane confiden

Q

What are Class A Airspace requirements and where does it start

A

Class A airspace starts at 18000 ft and ends at 60,000 ft.
You havt to have a IFR flight plan and you havt to receive ATC clearance. You must have had two way communication and Mode C transponder with ADSB out

Q

For Class D what must you have in order to enter

A

Two way communication 3SM vis and 500’ feet below 1000’ feet above and 2000’ feet horizontal

17
Q

prohibited areaspace, can you go into it?

18
Q

Can you go into restricted airspace?

A

Yes however you must have ATC clearance

19
Q

Can you enter an MOA

A

yes, however exercise extreme caution

20
Q

For a wildlife refuge what do they recommend

A

they recommend that you stay above 2000’ AGL although its just a recommendation

21
Q

Can you enter a warning area?

A

yes, however you need to have ATC authorization before entry

22
Q

What are the theories of lift.

A

Bernoulli’s principle, air moving faster over the wing which lowers pressure while the air is moving slower on the bottom which increases pressure.
Newtons law, you pitch up wind its under the wing pushes you up

23
Q

how many left turn tendencies does your aircraft have and what are they?

A

There are 4 left turn tendencies they are Spiraling slipstream, torque effect, P factor, Gyroscopic precession

24
Q

what are some ways to get weather information

A

1 800 WX brief, or use foreflight. Remember you must get your information from the national weather service which is a federal agency.

25
Q

What types of weather briefings can you get

A

Out look briefing - 6 hours before your flight
Standard briefing - is a complete information of your flight
Abbreviated briefing - an update to anything you may know
in flight briefing-

26
Q

when receiving your standard briefing what are the types of “mets” you can get

A

Airmet- mod weather, no thunderstorms
IFR - Sierra
Turb - Tango
Ice - Zulu

sigmet- severe weather, although no thunderstorms
Turb
Ice
Ash
Dust

convective sigmet- severe weather and there are thunderstorms
3/4 inch hail
tornados
line of thunderstorms
embedded thunderstorms
large area of thunderstroms

27
Q

What is an AD?

A

Airworthiness directive is basically a car recall except for a plane. they can come in two different types. A reoccurring AD or one time AD.

28
Q

what are the maintenance requirements you should be aware of

A

You can use the acronym Av1ate - Annual inspection, 100 hour inspection (for hire) The only difference between these two inspections is the AP IA can only sign off on an annual inspection. ADs need to be delt with. Transponder has to be inspected 24 calendar months. Altimeter also needs to be inspected every 24 calendar months. ELT must be inspected 12 calendar months, batteries need to be changed past 1/2 life or after 1 hr use
registration needs to be done every 7 years.
VOR must be done every 30 days

29
Q

What are the required documents on board the aircraft

A

Airworthiness Cert, Registration, Radio license (if traveling outside the US) Owners Manual or POH, Weight and balance

30
Q

what color of signs are mandatory on an airport

A

signs that are red are going to be mandatory

31
Q

what are the different VFR codes

A

1200 VFR, 7500 Hijack, 7600 Radio is gone, 7700 Emergency

32
Q

What level must you be above when doing maneuvers

A

You need to be above 1500 AGL legally, although its best to be up at 3500 ft

33
Q

what are the typical dimensions for Class D airspace

A

Class D airspace is typically around 4-5 NM around and 2500 ft AGL

34
Q

What are the typical dimensions for Class C airspace

A

5 Nm from the center, outer ring is 10 NM, the shelf starts at 1200 ft AGL and the Top of the shelf is 4000 ft

35
Q

What are the typical dimensions for Class B airspace

A

Class B goes up to 10000 ft AGL which goes out 30 NM the mode C viel

36
Q

What happens at 10,000 ft AGL

A

Any airplane that goes above 10,000 ft can go any speed they want, once below 10,000 ft you must be below 250 Knts

37
Q

when above 10,000 ft what are the Weather requirements

A

A great saying above 10,000 ft to help you remember is “your more than likely to see an F-111” meaning “five” statue mile visibility, 1000 ft above, 1000 ft below, and 1 sm horizontally away from a cloud. The point of these weather requirements is, what if a plane pops out of the cloud, you want to make sure you can maneuver away from something like that

38
Q

what is the general weather requirement rule when under 10,000 ft AGL

A

The typical rule is you must have 3SM visibility, 1000 ft above, 500 ft below and 2000 ft horizontal. “you’d more than likely see 3, Cessna 152’s”

39
Q

When it comes to Class G airspace what are the weather requirements for flying VFR (hint, no its not 3,152)

A

If you are in Class G airspace you can 1 SM vis and remain clear of clouds. Just don’t touch the clouds. At night it goes back to 3-152

40
Q

In class B what are the weather requirements.

A

Remember IFR traffic is a huge factor, as long as you have 3SM vis and clear of clouds you are good to go

41
Q

What is special VFR rules?

A

If you are in controlled airspace and Vis is below 3 NM you may REQUEST a special VFR rules which gives you 1SM vis and clear of clouds but remember they must say yes

42
Q

Where is a Mode C transponder mandatory

A

Class B airspace (mode C veil), In and above Class C airspace, above 10,000 ft, unless you are under 2500 AGL (your at an airport thats really high in the mountains you wouldnt need one)
