PRINCIPLES OF TRAINING Flashcards
What are the principles of training
FITT, overload, progression, recovery, specificity, variety
FITT
Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type
Overload
Overload is the principle in fitness training that necessitates subjecting the body to increased stress or load beyond its usual capacity, prompting adaptations such as increased strength, endurance, or muscle growth, requiring continual escalation of workout intensity, duration, or frequency for improvement.
Progression
Progression involves methodically increasing the challenge of a training program over time through adjustments in volume, intensity, frequency, or exercise selection, ensuring continual improvement and preventing plateaus, distinct from solely increasing workload as in overload.
Recovery
The principle of recovery in fitness training emphasizes the essential period of rest and recuperation after physical activity, enabling the body to repair, adapt, and prevent overtraining, thereby sustaining performance and averting injury and adverse health outcomes.
Specificity
Specificity in fitness training refers to tailoring exercises and routines to closely match the demands and goals of a particular activity or sport, aiming to optimize performance improvements in those specific areas.
What is variety
principle of incorporating diverse exercises and activities into your workout routine. The principle of variety is based on the idea that exposing your body to different types of movements, intensities, and stimuli can enhance overall fitness gains and reduce the risk of overuse injuries.
