What is limited government?
The principle that the size and scope of the federal government should be limited to only what is necessary. Avoid concentration of power and tyranny
What is ‘Separation of powers’?:
The power to make political decisions (about law or
policies) is distributed among three branches of
government.
What are checks and balances?:
Each branch of government controls and
influences the other two branches. Avoid a situation where one branch becomes too powerful 🡪 avoid tyranny.
By ‘spreading’ power over the different branches
and make them control each other, the system
avoids concentration of power
