Principles of the Anesthesia Machine Part 3 Flashcards
Fresh gas coupling
The FGF from flowmeters add extra volume to the tidal
Spirometer
Located in front of the expiratory valve, and measures the patients exhaled tidal volumes
Spectrometer
Analyzes which gases and what concentrations are being used
Oxygen analyzer
Reveals the Fi02
Fail safe valve
Prevents accidental overdose of nitrous oxide, stops flow if senses O2 <25ps from wall
Check valve
In O2 pipeline, prevents positive pressure from being transmitted back to the vaporizers and flowmeters. Not all machines have it.
Auxiliary O2 flowmeter
For MAC cases
False positive result
The presence of a problem, even though no problem exists. Usually happens when a patient is being scrubbed prior to draped, and it appears they are in Vtach
False negative result
Indicates that there isn’t a condition present, when in reality there is. Pulseless electrical activity.
Full cylinder of oxygen
2000psi, 660L
Full cylinder of NO2
750psi, 1590L (always liquid until the tank <1/4 full)
