Principles of occlusion Flashcards
What is centric occlusion?
Posn of mandible when maximum teeth are in contact
Tooth related jaw position
What is centric relation?
Maxillo-mandibular relation with muscles relaxed and condyles in the most anterior-superior position in the glenoid fossa
No intercuspation of teeth
Most reproducible position
Border position of mandible
Jaw relationship NOT tooth relationship
What is retruded contact position?
The first tooth to contact in centric relation
10% people, RCP = ICP otherwise there is a slide between RCP and ICP
What is canine guidance?
Path of guidance provided by the palatal surface of the maxillary canine teeth during lateral movement of the mandible
What is group function?
Articulation between posterior teeth on the working side during lateral movement of the mandible
What is anterior guidance?
Path of guidance provided by the palatal surfaces of the most anterior upper teeth during protrusive movements of the mandible
