Principles Of Electrotherapy Flashcards
what is frequency and how is it measured?
number of pulses (rate) per second
measured by: pps or Hz
If the strength of the amp has a high intensity, how long is the duration? If it is low?
high intensity = short width
low intensity = long width
Which rise time is best for denervating?
Slow Rate of Rise
Fast rate of rise is best for?
pain control
What are the three Laws of Dubois Reymond?
- adequate intensity to reach the threshold.
- current onset fast enough to reduce accommodation.
- phase duration long enough to exceed capacitance.
What is a typical extrinsic duty cycle set at?
50 sec on 50 sec off.
= 1 contraction per minute
Intrinsic duty cycles are stronger because they have “bursts”, give examples and their frequencies.
Russian 250 Hz
IFC 400 to 500 Hz
and biphasic 100Hz
What are three types of electrode configurations?
Monopolar - one small one large (feel it more in the active”little” one)
ex: probe
Bipolar - equal-sized (common for tens)
Quadpolar - 4 pads placed diagonal w/ cross currents
ex: IFC
