Principal Of Assessment Flashcards
Is the process of collecting and interpreting relevant data for clinical decision making.
Assessment
Include the use of all or most of these tools in order to gain the fullest insight into the client communicative functioning.
Comprehensive evaluation
Involves the collection of data to decide whether there is a strong likelihood that an. Individual does or does not have a problem that will require more in-depth assessment.
Screening
Area of concern.
Reason for referral (the referral question)
Can be gathered using interviews and questionnaire.
Gap information
Some time in the form of checklists, An important aspect of the assessment process.
Questionnaires
1- tests that allow a clinician to compare a client performance to a normative sample.
2- designed to compare a client performance to other individuals similar to the client such as age and gender.
Norm-referenced tests
Help us determine how close (far) from the average a client may be.
Standard scores
Most standardized test only provide one or two opportunities for a client to produce (demonstration comprehension) given language or speech form.
Criterion-referenced procedures
Does not compare an individual performance against other but rather it compare performance to a predetermine set of criteria such as typical age expectations.
Criterion-referenced measure
Clinician will typically use a combination of standardized assessment and informal tools during a communication assessment.
Observational/informal tools
Consider an individual performance in all area of language |(use, content and form) in both respective and expressive modalities.
Language
Cannot be observed therefore the clinician need to make inferences to judge the level of comprehension.
Receptive language (comprehension)
Judge overall speech intelligibility to produce speech sound disorders considering developmental level.
Speech
Visual examination of the facial feature and then gradually moves to the intraoral structures.
Oral motor
