What is a project
A temporary organisation that is created for the purpose of delivering one or more business products according to an agreed business case
Describe the characteristics of a project
Change - the means by which we introduce change

Uncertainty - threats and opportunities are rife in projects
What are the characteristics of a project?
Change Temporary Cross-functional Unique Uncertainty
What are the 6 aspects of project performance?
Time Cost Quality Scope Risk Benefits
Describe the 6 aspects of project performance
Time - the duration of the project
Cost - budget allocated
Quality - a measure of what must be delivered to be considered fit for purpose
Scope - a definition of what is included within the project and is subject to change control
Risk - an understanding of the uncertainty that affects the project
Benefits - a prediction of value to gained from the change
What is a project managers job?
Plan -> Delegate -> Monitor -> Control -> Plan
What are the four elements of Prince2
Processes
Themes
Principles
Project Environment
What are Prince2 Principles
7 principles guiding obligation and good practice to determine whether the project is genuinely being managed using Prince2 methodology.
If all 7 are not used then it is not a Prince2 Project
What are Prince2 Themes
The themes describe aspects of project management that must be addressed continually and in parallel during the project
What are Prince2 processes
describing the progression through the project lifecycle from start to finish. Each process has a chehcklist of recommended activities, products and realted responsibilities to complete to ensure success.

Organisations often what a consistant approach to managing projects and tailor PRINCE2 to create their own project management method, which is embedded into the organisations way of working.
What characteristics of project work distinguish it from business as usual
Change Temporary Cross functional Unique Uncertainty
What are the six variables associated with every projects

How is the ‘focus on products’ principle applied?
By using a set of product descriptions

The project management team will understand the tolerances permitted
Why must the defined roles and responsibilities principle be applied
It answers the question “what is expected of me”
What are tolerances
Defined ideals of what can be completed by an individual - if these tolerances are breached then an exception needs to be raised to the higher level of project team
