Where is peat cut from?
Peat is cut from bogs, either blanket bogs or raised bogs
Where are blanket bogs mainly found?
Blanket bogs are mainly found in western counties in Ireland
What are blanket bogs?
Shallow bogs, average depth is 2.6 metres
What is a ditcher used for?
A ditcher is used to dig drains to dry out the bog, with the water content usually being 95%
What is a grader used for?
A grader is used to level the bog which in turn makes it easier to harvest the peat
What is a Miller used for?
Harvests the peat by scraping loose a thin layer on top of the bog
What is a Harrow used for?
Use to dry out the loose peat on the surface
What is a ridger used for?
Gathers the loose dried peat into the ridges
