Primary and secondary data Flashcards
1
Q
What is primary date?
A
- Original data that has been collected from the researcher specifically for that study.
- Its data that has been collected first hand from the participants themselves either through a questionnaire, observation or experiments.
2
Q
Strengths of primary data
A
- Autentic data
- Collected with a soul purpose of being a specific investigation
- Designed to target the information that is required
- High levels of controles
- Less time waisted on irrelevant data
3
Q
Weakness of primary data
A
- Time and effort
- Expensive
- Therefore, in comparison to primary data, secondary data which already exists can save time, effort and resources.
4
Q
What is secondary data?
A
- Data that was collected by someone other than the researcher
- This includes data that already exists and has been examined.
5
Q
Strength of secondary data
A
- Less time consuming and less expensive to collect
- This means that researchers can find information they desire with very little effort
- Much easier when compared to primary data
6
Q
Weakness of secondary data
A
- Concerns over accuracy
- vulnerability in the quality of the data: might seem okay at first but then turn out to be incomplete /outdated or just not useful.
- Meaning that much of the data might be of n0 value or irrelevant.
