Q

What is one way to save on money with FSX for Lustre

A

You can use the Lustre data compression feature to achieve cost savings on your high-performance Amazon FSx for Lustre file systems and backup storage. When data compression is enabled, Amazon FSx for Lustre automatically compresses newly written files before they are written to disk and automatically uncompresses them when they are read.

This is done by using the LZ4 algorithm

Q

How does data transfer charges work for FSx

A

Data transferred “in” to and “out” from Amazon FSx across Availability Zones or VPC Peering connections in the same AWS Region is charged at $0.01/GB in each direction.

Data transferred “out” from Amazon FSx to another AWS Region (including for copying backups across Regions) is charged at the inter-region rate for the specific inter-region transfer. So this is .02 per GB in commercial regions and .03 per GB in GovCloud
