Preventive Maintenance, Positioning, Water Supplies Flashcards
Minimum tread depth
4/32”
Or when tread depth indicators are even with tire tread
Portable O2 level
> 1000 psi
Air chisel bottle pressure
> 4000psi
Store hydronic spreaders with how large a gap
1/2”
How long do you run the generator
Approx 5 min or until warmed up
Weekly engine inspection(Monday)
Clean cab Clean thermal imager Clean exterior, wax monthly Compartments Bleed all 4 air tanks
Weekly PUMP service
Remove each pump cap, elbow and wye, clean lubricate
Operate all valves
Remove intake valve and clean
Inspect steamer and strainer
Backflush pump: once finished, engage pump, open tank to pump, operate primer
Light oil
Liquid wrench, WD40 or similar water displacing lubricating oil
Typically in an aerosol can
Air tool oil
Supplied with air chisel in small squeeze bottle
Two-cycle oil
Added to gasoline to lube 2 cycle engines
Silicone spray
Used on roll up doors, slide out compartment trays.
Minimal residue
* DO NOT use on other moving parts. Remove dirt before applying
Graphite
To ease movement of pump valve handles. Can be applied to the remote control handle shaft and mechanism, from pump panel to valve handle.
*remove dirt prior to applying
Grease
Only grease permitted is “food grade”machinery grease.
Apply to appliance and pump threads as needed
Fuel stabilizer
Add to all new gas according to label
DEF
Diesel Exhaust Fluid used in some engines to reduce NITROGEN OXIDE emissions
Engine OOS 24hrs or 2 shifts
A COMPLETE daily inspection shall be performed immediately PRIOR to swapping equipment and return to service
Pay close attention to component or system that was serviced
Engine service returned same shift
Complete before returning to service:
Booster tank full
Verify pump and governor operates in both modes
Verify proper brake pressure and operation
Ensure all equipment is accounted for
Engine Positioning
Single family residence EMS
Give priority to rescue for stretcher access.
Consider safety of pt when loading
Busy streets, use engine to protect pt loading area
Engine Positioning
Apartments, ALFs, multistory buildings EMS
Due to limited access engine may need to park well removed from location. Leave access for rescue
Engine Positioning
Roadway incidents
Use engine to barricade/block or divert traffic
Consider engine noise and exhaust
Spills or leaks- uphill upwind
If apparatus is facing traffic consider turning off headlights
Engine Positioning
Structure fires
Single story structure
First arriving engine and ladder should be spotted in front of structure in most cases position engine and hoses while leaving room in front of structure for ladder
Engine Positioning
Structure fires
Multistory Structure
Same as single story but engine should be placed to leave the building corners open.
Permits ladder to reach 2 sides of the structure.
Engine Positioning
Tactical and Safety
How much space does an engine need on the officer side for ladder rack lowering
5ft
Engine Positioning
Backing with spotter on engineers side, How far from the tailboard
5-10 ft
Places spotter in most visible location
Engineer and spotter must maintain eye contact
Apparatus stops when spotter is no longer in view
