Prevention for 0-3 years age low risk
6 months - free flow cup
1 year - discourage breast feeding
Supervised toothbrushing as soon as teeth erupt
Brush x2 day, smear F toothpaste - 1000ppm
Limit sugar
Sugar free medicines
What age should you supervise brushing up until?
7 years old
Toothpaste amount and ppm for 0-3 year old low risk
Smear, 1000 ppm
Prevention for 3-6 years age low risk
Supervised brushing x2 a day
F toothpaste pea size >1000 ppm
Spit dont rinse
Limit sugar
Sugar free medicines
FV x2 a year
Toothpaste amount and ppm for 3-6 years age low risk
Pea size, >1000 ppm
Prevention for any high risk child under 6 years age
All the usual BUT:
-F toothpaste 1350 - 1500 ppm
-Sugar free medicines long term (GP)
-FV more than x2 a year (2.2% NaF-)
Reduce recall (3 or 6 months)

F toothpaste concentration for high risk caries child under 6 years
1350-1500 ppm
Prevention for all 7 years or older ages
Brush x2 daily independent
F toothpaste 1350-1500ppm
Spit dont rinse
Limit sugar
FV x2 a year
Prevention for all 7 years old or older high caries risk
ALL the usual PLUS
-daily fluoride rinse (0.05% NaF)
-fissure seal permanent molars
-FV more than x2 a year
Those with active caries/disease
8+years = daily fluoride rinse
10+ years = 2800 ppm duraphat toothpaste
16+ years = 2800/5000 ppm duraphat toothpaste
