A

a principle that requires the government to prove the guilt of a criminal defendant and relieves the defendant of any burden to prove their innocence

Reasons for the presumption of innocence

A

1: rule of justice states that in order to act just, we must treat every person in the same category as the same
2: accusation is easier, so the argumentative discourse must be artificially leveled
3: danger argument-playing with a dangerous weapon (such at the criminal justice system) requires great carefulness
