Pressure in fluids Flashcards
1
Q
Laws of pressure in fluid
A
- Pressure exerted by fluid at rest is always at right angles to surface of vessel
- Fluid at rest the pressure is the same in all directions
- Downward pressure in open vessel is proprtional to depth
- Downward presure is subject to density of fluid
- downward pressure isindependant of shape of vessel
2
Q
what is head of pressure
A
the effective vertical height of a column of water
ie a jet on an upper floor or height of tank above ground level
3
Q
Pressure formulae
A
P = H X .0981 bar H = P X 10.19 bar pressure = force x area
4
Q
what is suction
A
the reduction in pressure at one end of a pipe. allowing atmospheric pressure to force water up the pipe.
5
Q
factors effecting suction
A
- Create flow in water
- Raise the water
- overcome entry loss at impeller as water changes direction
- overcome suction loss due to friction in stariner
