pressure changes in blood vessels Flashcards
what causes the blood to decrease in pressure as it moves from aorta to capillary and venule
-increased surface area
-increased friction
-peripheral resistance
-blood slows and therefore BP decreases
what are the fluctuations in pressure caused by in the aorta
-the pumping of the heart
what is the process which maintains blood pressure in the artery
-artery walls close to heart have a lot of elastic tissue
-when blood leaves, walls stretch
-as blood moves on and out of aorta pressure drops
-elastic recoil of the walls helps maintain blood pressure
why is it important to maintain pressure gradient between aorta and arterioles
-keeps the blood flowing towards the tissues
