Pressure And Volume Flashcards
As volume doubles…
…pressure halves.
As volume halves…
…pressure doubles
Why are pressure and volume inversely proportional?
If you halve the volume, you double the number of collisions per second between the gas particles and the container.
How is the force applied when gas particles collide with the walls of a container?
At right angles to the surface.
What is the equation concerning pressure, volume and constant?
Pressure (Pa) x volume (m3) = constant
How would you increase the energy of a gas?
By heating and by doing work on it.
Why would using a bicycle pump increase the energy of gas?
By doing work to the gas, it gets hotter. The average speed of the particles will increase because the kinetic energy increases when they collide with the piston, so the temperature is higher.
