Q

Example of pressure in relation to force and area

A

The pointed end of a high heel exerts more pressure than the flat end as the force is acting over a smaller area at the pointed end

Q

How to find atmospheric pressure

A

Mercury Barometer-balancing the weight of mercury in the glass tube against the atmospheric pressure. If the weight of the mercury is less than atmospheric pressure, it rises.

Q

Use appropriate example to relate pressure beneath a liquid surface to depth and density

A

In the ocean, the pressure exerted by water increases with increasing depths. As the density of the water increases, the pressure of the water increases

Q

Describe air pressure in relation to Altitude

A

As altitude increaces, air pressure is lower as most gas moloucles in the atmosphere is pulled close to the eart surface by gravity. Thefore the density of gas particles at lower altitude is higher than higher altitudes.

Q

Why are airplanes not pressurized to sea level

A

It decreaces the aircraft life as there would be more pressure put on the aircraft due to the larger pressure difference which will result in the plane having to be heavier, decreacing effeciency and burning more fuel
