Pressure Flashcards
What is the formula for pressure?
Pressure= Force/Area
P=F/A
What is the formula for Pressure in Liquids?
Pressure=Density x Gravity x Depth
P=pgh
Name the units for Force
Newtons
Name the units for area
cm2 or m2
Name the units for Pressure
n/cm2 or n/m2 in Pascals
Explain the atmospheric Pressure
Molecules on the air move on a high speed and exert pressure on everything. This is because moving molecules hit and bounce off objects walls exerting a force. Since this force is exerted over an area, molecules exert a pressure. P=F/A
What is the standard atmospheric pressure?
100 000 Pa
How to calculate weight.
mass x gravity
How to calculate density
mass / volume
What is the formula for Gas Pressure?
p1 x v1 = p2 x v2
What is density?
Mass per unit volume. p=m / v
What is pressre?
Force per unit of area. P= F/ A
How does pressure varies with force and area
Pressure is proportional to force and inversely proportional to area. That means, that the bigger the area, keeping the force constant, the lower the pressure, and the bigger the force, keeping the area constant, the lower the pressure.
What is the relationship between the motion of particles and temperature?
If you increase the temperature of a gas the KE will also increase, causing them to move more rapidly with greater energy, and if you lower the temperature, the KE will decrease, moving slowly and less energy. At absolute zero (-273 C) the particles are supposed to have minimal motion.
Describe the pressure and the change in pressure relating to the motion of its particles.
The particles are in constant motion determined by the temperature. When colliding with a surface they exert a force, and the colliding are usually random in all directions. The more collisions that occur, and the greater the force of them, the higher the pressure.
temperature, number of particles and volume are what can influence on the pressure.
