Divided Government
A divided government is a type of government in presidential systems, when control of the executive branch and the legislative branch is split between two political parties
Unified Government
When the president and the majority of Congress are of the same party.
Foreign Policy President
The president using his power in anything related to foreign policy, they are the Chief Executive- the commander in chief of the armed forces, during war the president negotiates funds and congress approves those funds for defense the president’s ability to act quickly and superior sources of information made them the dominant force in foreign policy treaties, presidents act responsibly in moving the armed forces where they are needed.
Domestic Policy
public policy that concerns laws, governments, government programs, and administrative decisions that directly related to all the issues and measures within our nation’s border
War Powers Resolution
president must inform/talk to congress before sending and retrieving troops
Office of Mangment and Budget
Part of the Executive Office of the President that provides budgetary expertise, central legislative clearance, and management assistance to the president. Oversees the implementation of the President’s vision across the Executive Branch
Executive Privlege
An implied power for the President of the United States and others within the executive branch to withhold documents or information in public interest and maintain confidentiality under certain circumstances. This usually is in effect if revealing information would impair government functions.
Presidential Veto
Congress advances a Bill to the President’s desk that he doesn’t agree with, so he blocks it and sends it back to Congress.
Pardon
Pardon makes the recipient a new person in the eyes of the law as if no offense has ever been committed.
NSC
The National Security Council is part of the president’s executive office where they coordinate advice and policy for the president on national security issues.
Commander in Chief
acting in the capacity the president is responsible for safety and security of the US. He holds the prime responsibility for the conduct of the US foreign relations.
Enumerated Powers
Powers specified and explicitly written in the US Constitution are the basis of limited government
Inherent Powers
Powers that are “implied” but not states and are controversial
Electoral College
An institution created by the Federal Convention of 1787 to select the president Gives the little states a little more weight in the election
Executive Office of the President
The closest advisors and support agencies of the president. People and agencies that have the most trust and influence on the president’s decision meet at the White House Office to make a final decision.
